VTT: Product basics

Creating a VTT (or any software product) has become a lot easier with AI.
This is like a sharp dwarven axe. Used correctly in the right context, one could be on their way to earning some real coin. However, most may find the market axe cuts them down and they leave the battle field empty handed.

Here are a few questions you should answer before begining.

Is this a VTT for yourself or do you plan to have customers?

IF, you are planning on having paying customers then you have to solve for something called Product Market Fit.

Product Market Fit is achieved when you have built a product that satisfies a real demand in a speciffic target market.

In the cases of VTT, there are several major players already; DnDBeyond Roll20 Owl Bear Rodeo to name just a few. Then there are 1,000s of indie VTTs popping up.

Which begs the question. If you are going to compete in this space you really need to do your research.

One way to start is to first craft a draft product vision.

For… (target segment of users)
Who want to… (what is the goal(s) they have
They currently have to… (How do they currently do this thing)
This is not great because… (What are the main pain points & problems)
We believe we can address these by… (Hypotetical solution)
We will know we are successful when… (what measurable goal will you use to mark success?)

If you have built a successful SAAS product, VTT, or are aspiring, what are some of your tips for other future VTT-prenuers?
